HIGHLIGHTS

Samsung has released a new health feature for Galaxy Watch users in India– The Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification (IHRN). This feature builds upon the existing Blood Pressure (BP) and Electrocardiogram (ECG) functionalities, aiming to help users detect heart rhythms suggestive of atrial fibrillation (AFib). The feature is designed to assist users in maintaining better control over their heart health.

For those unfamiliar, atrial fibrillation (AFib) is a common type of arrhythmia characterized by irregular heartbeats originating in the heart’s upper chambers, or atria. This condition often presents with no symptoms but can significantly raise the risk of stroke and heart failure.

The IHRN feature is available through the latest version of the Samsung Health Monitor app, leveraging the BioActive sensor in Galaxy watches to continuously monitor heart rhythms. If the app detects irregular patterns, the Galaxy Watch will alert users and recommend taking an ECG for a precise evaluation.

The new Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification is compatible with the Galaxy Watch7 and earlier models, including the Galaxy Watch6, Watch5, and Watch4 series. Users can activate IHRN by updating the Samsung Health Monitor app from the Galaxy Store and enabling the feature through the app’s settings menu.

Previously, IHRN was available in other regions but was not available in India. With this release, Samsung is making advanced health monitoring tools more accessible to its Indian users, offering valuable support in managing heart health.

“Cardiovascular disease remains one of the main causes of death around the world, and we’re committed to empowering our users to stay informed about their heart health by providing monitoring tools, including blood pressure measurement and irregular heart rhythm notification,” Hon Pak, Vice President and Head of Digital Health Team, MX Business at Samsung Electronics, said when IHRN debuted last year.
