One UI update for Galaxy Watch, Galaxy Gear S3 and Galaxy Sport is going live

The update brings simpler workout tracking

To all those who’ve been envious of the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active’s features, Samsung is going to throw a bone. The company will roll out a software update to some of the wearables available today like the Gear S3, Gear Sport and Galaxy Watch. The new update will bring the Active’s One UI interface to these wearables from Samsung, making them a lot more usable and the UX more fluid.

Other features of the update include waking on touch, the ability to control the frequency of Daily Briefings and a simpler way to track workouts using both the watch and the Galaxy Health app. The ability to track open water swims is also coming to the three smartwatches courtesy of the update, as is the high heart-rate alert feature found on the Apple Watch. Lastly, Samsung says the watches will have better sleep tracking and compare the results with the stats of people from the same age group to give you an overview of your sleeping habits with respect to the norm.

The update for the Samsung Galaxy Gear S3, Gear Sport and Gear Watch should be rolling out already and in case you are interested in receiving the update, you’ll have to check in the Galaxy Gear app on your phone to do so. Updating the existing Galaxy wearables could also improve the battery life, possibly through the more aggressive memory management of the One UI.
