Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear 1100 SoC is designed for connected wearables
The processor features a Power Saver Mode, integrated modem with support for 3G/LTE, and Qualcomm’s iZat location engine
Qualcomm has announced its new Snapdragon Wear 1100 processor that is designed for wearable devices such as fitness trackers, smart headsets, watches for kids or the elderly, and other accessories. The processor has a Power Saver Mode and an integrated modem with support LTE/3G. It also features the company’s iZat location engine, which the company claims to offer enhanced accuracy and power via multi-GNSS and cell-ID positioning. In addition, iZat also supports geofencing applications. For security, processor has a cryptographic engine, HW random number generator, and TrustZone. The chipset is commercially available now and will start shipping from this week. Qualcomm also announced that it will collaborate with Aricent, Borqs, Infomark and SurfaceInk, who showcased reference platforms based on the Snapdragon Wear processors during Computex 2016.
Anthony Murray, Senior Vice President and General Manager, IoT, Qualcomm Technologies said, “We are delighted to add Snapdragon Wear 1100 to our Snapdragon Wear family, thus making it easier for customers to develop connected wearables with targeted use cases such as kid and elderly tracking. We are actively working with the broader ecosystem to accelerate wearables innovation and are excited to announce a series of customer collaborations today.”
Qualcomm’s competitor, MediaTek Also has its own chipset designed for wearables called the MT2523. The chipset was unveiled in January this year and the company claims that it is the first SoC that combines support for high-resolution mobile screens, dual-mode Bluetooth and GPS.
