OnePlus Watch could support always-on display in the future via an OTA update
OnePlus held a deep dive Q&A regarding the OnePlus Watch.
During the Q&A, OnePlus answered popular questions about the device.
One of the questions was regarding support for an always-on display on the OnePlus Watch.
OnePlus launched its first wearable device, the OnePlus Watch alongside the OnePlus 9 series smartphones. The watch is the company’s first foray into the wearable segment. At launch, the OnePlus Watch does not support an always-on display. During a deep dive Q&A on the OnePlus forum, OnePlus addressed the lack of an always-on display on the watch.
Does the OnePlus Watch support an always-on display?
On the forum, OnePlus says, “We’ve heard many users request the always-on display. We are currently looking at things like how it impacts power consumption and are evaluating the possibility to bring this feature in a future OTA. I’m also interested to know your thoughts about how important AOD is to you, considering that it could increase power consumption by almost 50%. Let us know in the thread below”.
So, it looks like the OnePlus Watch can support an always-on but at the cost of reducing the battery life by about 50%. Considering the watch has a claimed battery life of 2 weeks, this could reduce its life to 1 week with the display always-on.
The forum also addresses the battery life of the device is the GPS is always on. The forum reads, “It supports 25 hours of battery life when continuously using GPS”.
Those looking forward to the OnePlus watch should know that the OnePlus Watch is priced at Rs 14,999 in India and will go on sale sometime in April across offline and online stores.
The OnePlus Watch features a 1.39-inch AMOLED display with a 454×454 pixels resolution and 326 PPI. The OnePlus Watch is also IP68 rated making it resistant to dust and water.
The OnePlus smartwatch connects to your Android smartphone via the OnePlus Health app. It lets users receive notifications directly on the smartwatch, manage calls and messages, music playback, remote camera control and more. The smartwatch also connects with the OnePlus TV (review) and can be controlled from the OnePlus Watch. The OnePlus Watch has a slew of sensors including a SpO2 blood-oxygen monitor, heart rate sensor and more.
