Noodoe unveils smartwatch that displays time through drawings
Noodoe announced a smartwatch that tells you the time using your drawings and illustrations.
Displayed on the grounds of Computex 2015 at Taipei, Taiwan, the Noodoe smartwatch is taking a minimalistic approach of only showing you the time and notifications from your smartphone. Smartwatches have flooded the markets now, each trying to win over each other by offering exclusive and more or less the same features. Almost every smartwatch out there have heart rate sensors, step counters, and sleep monitors but none of them seem to be present on the Noodoe Watch.
The unique offering from Noodoe is a new way of displaying time on the watch face created by the user. All you need to do is draw whatever you would like to display on your watch face and upload it on the Noodoe app, currently available on the Play Store. Then you can connect the device to your smartphone via Bluetooth and transfer your illustration to be displayed on its 32×128 pixel AMOLED or active-matrix organic LED screen. You can create any type of illustration and it could be a drawing or simple text. To bring in more creativity, you can even import images from Paint and Photoshop. The app also features a “Watch Cloud” where users can share their creations with other users.
The Noodoe Watch essentially looks like a fitness band but also lacks all the sensors that can track your footsteps or heart rate. However, it does detect gestures and by flicking your wrist you can view all the latest notifications from your smartphone. If you have an unwanted incoming call, you can silence your phone again with a flick.
John Wang, founder of Noodoe and former Chief Marketing Officer of HTC said,”If Apple Watch were Barbie Doll that has everything, then this blank watch would be LEGO, a rich canvas for your own imagination.” He later on added,“With traditional watches and jewelry, self-expression means picking and choosing from what is commercially available. Noodoe takes this fundamental human aspiration to express oneself to a whole new level – the empowerment of self-expression using one’s own ideas.”
The Noodoe Watch will be priced under $100 and is expected to be launched in the fourth quarter of 2015, with an iOS version of the app coming soon.
