Meta is gearing up to unveil its new AR glasses later this year, as confirmed by CEO Mark Zuckerberg. This announcement is set to stir excitement among Meta Ray-Ban enthusiasts, although details about the new product remain somewhat elusive. The only glimpse we’ve had so far comes from a blurry image posted by a user named Matthew Karolian on Threads. The photo shows a pair of oversized glasses with unusual bends near the lenses and midway through each arm.

Mark Zuckerberg responded to Karolian’s post, hinting that these glasses are indeed the next iteration in Meta’s AR lineup. “Will be ready to share more later this year,” he said, leading many to speculate that further details will be revealed at Meta’s annual Connect conference, scheduled for September 25. Last year’s Connect event was where Meta first introduced its popular Ray-Ban smart glasses.

According to a recent report by The Information (via Gizmodo), the next pair of AR glasses by Meta is expected to feature advanced augmented reality capabilities, including a heads-up display in the right lens using traditional projection technology. However, the glasses are expected to be relatively heavy, around 70 grams—nearly double the weight of typical sunglasses. This increased weight likely contributes to the chunky appearance seen in the blurry photo, with the bend in the arms possibly designed to offset some of the heft.

There’s also speculation about whether the new glasses will retain the Ray-Ban branding. The report suggests that Meta might be shifting away from the Ray-Ban label.

As we await more concrete details, it’s clear that Meta’s new AR glasses are expected to make a significant impact in the world of augmented reality. For now, we’ll have to wait and see how these AR glasses will look and what they will offer.
