LG, which recently launched the LG G watch, is gearing up to launch the next iteration of the device. The LG G Watch 2 could be unveiled next month in September at IFA 2014 and will come with an OLED display.
The news was reported by Korea times yesterday. The LG representative told Korea Times that the LG G Watch 2 will have an OLED display which is being manufactured by a display-making associate of LG Display. The new watch would work on the same Android Wear platform as the current generation. Their sources also revealed that the watch will be powered by a Qualcomm processor rather than LG's own Odin branded chipsets which are still being tested.
"LG Electronics was working on a September release for the new smartwatch alongside Google's wearable platform. The IFA fair may be the venue to see the upgraded smartwatch," an official at LG told The Korea Times
IFA is a good platform to launch a device. Smartwatches are still new to the market, so is Android wear and the whole platform has some rough edges which can be worked upon.
