Martian Watches partners exclusively with Flipkart to launch its Martian Notifier Smartwatch in India.

US-based Martian Watches has entered the Indian market with a Martian Notifier smartwatch for Android and iOS users at a budget price of Rs. 9,999. The smartwatch is available to pre-order exclusively from Flipkart and will be released by October 10.

Martian Notifier is a Bluetooth 4.0-enabled smartwatch that lets users view notifications from popular apps like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, WhatsApp, Skype, LinkedIn, Gmail as well as from thousands of Android and iOS apps. The wearable also supports CallerIDs and text message support.

Users will be able to view app notifications on the smartwatch's 96×16 pixel graphic OLED display, i.e, placed below the analogue watch dial. To dismiss a notification or snooze it for up to 5 minutes after it has been received, users have to tap the Martian Notifier smartwatch's glass. The wearable allows you to scroll through notification history, as well as remotely access the paired smartphone's camera shutter along with the 3-second timer control or even locate a misplaced smartphone that's paired with the smartwatch. However the device does not support voice calling, which has become a norm with all recently launched smartwatches.

Jeffrey Hsieh, CEO of Martian Watches stated in an official press release, “Bringing the Martian Notifier to a worldwide market, especially a major growth market for consumer electronics such as India, provides a unique opportunity to set standards in the Indian wearable tech market with our world class quality and great value. Consumers in India are looking for wearable technology that melds well into their daily lives with a personalized digital experience, and we feel a smartwatch design with style like ours is just the thing they are looking for and Flipkart is the ideal partner to help make this available to them.”

Tech giants like Sony, LG, Samsung and Motorola are targeting India with their wearable devices. However the cost is a big detriment to smartwatch sales in India, with the wearable's costing as much as a mid-range smartphone. Read: Spice Smart Pulse M9010 smartwatch with voice calling launched
