Google’s patent for the “intra-ocular device” was filed in 2014 and includes an antenna, battery, and sensors

Google has applied for a patent for a device that can be injected into the eye. The patent is called an “intra-ocular device” and is decribed as an  “electronic lens that can be controlled to control the overall optical power of the lens.” The patent for such a device includes antenna, battery, and sensors, while the battery will be charged via an “energy harvesting system”. As per the patent, the device will communicate with an external device that has a processor, display, and user controls. The patent for the device was filed in 2014.

The patent also describes a method of plating the the device into the eye. A fluid will first be injected into the lens capsule of the eye. Then the intra-ocular device itself will be injected into the fluid and then the fluid will then be hardened. This solidified fluid will form the coupling between the lens capsule and the device.

If you are feeling a little too squeamish about injecting a device into your eye, and feel Google Glass is bit too obtrusive, then Samsung may be working on a device just for you. The company has received a patent for an augmented reality contact lens. The lenses would allow the user to take pictures or interact with data projected on the lens.
