Now, Fitbit has confirmed that it will keep key elements of Pebble ecosystem like Pebble SDK, CloudPebble, Timeline APIs and mobile apps active at this time. Pebble developers can continue to create and update apps for Pebble smartwatch. A developer blog post confirms Pebble will update its mobile app first to ensure operation of core Pebble functions even with cloud services discontinued.
The update, expected in the coming months, will also ensure that Pebble Health continues to work as it does today. The Health API data is not dependent on cloud services and will feed directly into the Pebble mobile app.
It seems the biggest effect could be on third-party softwares and integrations. "We are currently evaluating Pebble features dependent on third-party services—dictation, messaging, weather, etc.—to establish if and for how long these experiences can continue on," said Jon Barlow in a blog post.
With the Pebble acquisition, Fitbit seemed to be curtailing all the development efforts happening around Pebble in order to focus on its own software. The company however seems to be continuing development work on Pebble's software but the days seem to be numbered.
