Google’s recently released Android Wear platform doesn’t have many devices running on it at the moment, but it’s definitely being noticed. More messaging applications are being brought to Android Wear, with the Facebook Messenger being the newest addition. This is in addition to the Google Hangouts support, which Android Wear already has.
Earlier, Facebook Messenger was capable of only mirroring the phone’s notifications on an Android Wear driven watch. Now, users can respond to messages on the Messenger directly through their smartwatch. In addition, users can also send a ‘thumbs up’ response to messages from the smartwatch. This has of course been done for when a voice response is not possible.
The addition of the Facebook Messenger app to Android Wear is good for Google, which is trying to make this the primary platform for wearables. The platform though is yet to achieve its full potential, which means you should wait before rushing to buy a device. The Moto 360, which is yet to be launched, is expected to surpass both the LG G Watch and the Samsung Gear Live smartwatch, which are selling right now.
