International Data accumulation firm IDC reports that Apple will continue to lead the smartwatch market space for the next four years, atleast. According to IDC's report, Apple Watch sales will rise from 13 million units this year to 45.2 million units by 2019. Although IDC says that Android Wear devices will have a stronger growth of 80.5%, Apple already has a lead in the ecosystem, because of its initial sales boost.
The report also goes on to say that by 2019, Apple will have a 51.1% market share, whereas Android Wear's market share will stand at the number two position, with a 38.8% market space.
"Apple’s watchOS will lead the smartwatch market throughout our forecast, with a loyal fanbase of Apple product owners and a rapidly growing application selection, including both native apps and Watch-designed apps," says the report. The report goes on to say that the growth of Android Wear will be fueled by both tech companies and traditional watchmakers, while it forecasts that Pebble will continue to post modest growth due to its simple user-interface and low price.
