Reports suggest that while the company may be planning something in March, it could be related to the 4-inch iPhone and not the next generation Apple Watch

Apple may not launch the Watch 2 in March, as per a report by TechCrunch. Citing several sources, the report also claims that the company might launch an upgraded version of the original Apple Watch instead of a completely new variant. This new version might only come with a FaceTime camera and not much more.

The report by TechCrunch states, “I’m also not hearing any major action on the software side of a new Apple Watch model. Shipping hardware well in advance of a even beta software that developers can use to take advantage of new features isn’t something that usually turns out well. The iPad Pro and Pencil are recent examples of a situation where the capabilities far outstrip the support so far from developers.” However, the report also states that Apple is planning something in the early stages of March. This could possibly be a smaller 4-inch variant of the iPhone, which is speculated to be called either the 6c, 7c or 5e.

It was earlier believed that Apple would launch the next generation of the Apple Watch alongside a 4-inch iPhone in March. A few days ago, it was reported that Apple was granted a patent for a new magnetic wristband. The magnets will not only secure the watch when it is worn, but will also turn into a protective case. The magnets can also be used to attached the watch to a MacBook or iMac. However, it was not known if the wristbands will be compatible with the current generation of Apple Watch, or will be a feature exclusive to the second generation of the device. If the latter is the case, then it is possible that Apple may be fine-tuning the technology before it launches the Watch 2.

Whenever, Apple decides to launch the Watch 2, there is a good chance that it won’t be cheap. When the company finally launched the Apple Watch in India in November, prices for the device started at Rs. 30,900 and went all the way up to Rs. 14,20,000. The Apple Watch Hermès, has not been introduced in India.
