Google has announced that the Android Wear 2.0 update has been delayed to early 2017. The company made the announcement on its Android Developer blog, where is also unveiled Developer Preview 3 for the platform. The new preview adds the Google Play Store on Android Wear.
The company notes that with the Play Store for Android Wear, users will be able to browse recommended apps in the home view. Further, they will be able to search for apps using voice, keyboard and more. Users will also be able to install an app only on the watch, and not on the phone. So developers can publish watch-only apps on the Play Store. There are also a number of other additions to the Developer Preview 3 of Android wear. The complete release notes can be read here.
To recall, Google unveiled Android Wear 2.0 at Google I/O this year. With the new version, data from any app will show up on any watch face. It also comes with a small keyboard that can be brought up on the watch face via swipe. Currently, Huawei, LG and Moto offer smartwatches powered by Android Wear.
