Can watching TV keep mosquitoes away?
LG's new Mosquito Away TV comes with an ultrasonic device which the company claims to get rid of mosquitoes
LG has launched its Mosquito Away TV, which the company claims can drive away mosquitoes. The TV is equipped with an Ultra Sonic device that uses sound waves to get rid of the insects. LG says that the technology complies with global norms and has been tested by the International Institute of Biotechnology and Toxicology (IIBAT) in India. The technology does not use any chemicals and nor does it require refilling or maintenance. Further, the technology works independently of the TV and doesn’t require the TV to be on in order to work. The 32-inch (80 cm) TV is priced at Rs. 26,900, while the 43-inch (108 cm) TV is priced at Rs. 47,500.
Mr. Howard Lee, Director – Home Entertainment, LG Electronics stated, “LG is constantly introducing products based on Indian Insights, making them more meaningful for the Indian consumers. The new Mosquito Away technology in television is an extension of this philosophy, transiting beyond viewing experience and truly building a healthy environment at home. We at LG want to deliver innovation at its best for our customers and we hope that this product will be beneficial for them.”
However, the company notes that long term effect of the technology on mosquitoes is not tested and says that the insects may become resistant. Further, LG states that the TV is not intended to replace other protective devices against mosquitoes.
