Amazon Fire TV Stick with Voice Remote launched in India at Rs. 3,999

Amazon has launched a competitor to Google’s Chromecast in India. Called the Amazon Fire TV Stick, the device is priced at Rs. 3,999 and will be available on Amazon as well as select retailers. The Amazon Fire TV Stick is powered by a quad-core processor along with inbuilt Wi-Fi. It also comes with a voice remote control with spoken language support in English and Hindi. By comparison, the Chromecast is slightly cheaper at Rs. 3,399, but does not come with a remote control.

As an introductory offer, those who purchase the Fire TV Stick by May 31, and subscribe to Amazon Prime, will get Rs. 499 credit back to their Amazon Pay balance. Those who have already subscribed to Prime are also eligible to receive this credit. For a limited time, Amazon is offering a number of other benefits to buyers. This includes up to 100GB of free data on Airtel Broadband and 4G Wi-Fi home devices. This is valid for three months from the time of activation. Other benefits include 240GB of free data from YOU Broadband and a six month subscription to Gaana with unlimited ad-free music streaming. For Video, users get three month premium video membership from Eros Now, and one month ad-free streaming from Voot and Voot Kids.

Now, Fire TV Stick transforms TV viewing and makes the Prime experience even better,” said Amit Agarwal, Senior Vice President and Country Manager of Amazon India. “Customers can now instantly stream their favourite movies and TV shows right from an HDTV, and easily find new content using just their voice.”

In order to use the stick, users will have to plug the device into an HDMI port and attach the power cable. If purchased from Amazon, the device will come  with their account pre-registered. The Amazon Fire TV Stick also comes with a feature called Advanced Streaming and Prediction (ASAP). The company says that this helps predict the content that the customer would want to watch, and prepare them in advance. It also claims that the predictions get better the more customers use the device. The device also comes with a data monitoring feature that lets users choose their preferred viewing quality and alert them before their data usage exceeds a preset limit.
