After making incoming calls free on roaming, Videocon is now offering reduced call rates for outgoing roaming calls. Users can avail the reduced tariff plans, by purchasing special tariff vouchers.

Videocon Telecom consumers by using a special tariff voucher of Rs 45 can now make roaming outgoing local calls at 50 paisa per minute instead of the earlier Rs 1 per minute. STD call rates have also been slashed to 75 paisa per minute instead of the previous Rs 1.50 per minute. Customers can also get 20 minutes of free incoming calls per day instead of 75 paisa per minute for 2 weeks.

Apart from Videocon, Airtel, Vodafone, BSNL and Airtel have also announced packs for discounted rates. Notably roaming was supposed to be abolished in March this year, but TRAI had ruled out the same.

“Conventionally, benefit of tariff cutters or special tariff vouchers is only given in the home network, and no operator has extended this kind of benefit with 50 per cent straight drop to their customers while roaming,” said Arvind Bali, Chief Executive Officer and Director at Videocon Telecom.

“We obviously will be bearing a cost for offering such proposition, but I feel this is an investment in the brand for long term returns,” he added.

Videocon has nearly 3.2 million consumers on its network in Haryana, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. The company recently won back spectrum in six circles including Bihar, UP East and UP West after its licenses got cancelled in Fen 2012 by the supreme court.
