The company had already warned users to do their first recharge by April 15 in order to avoid “degradation and/or discontinuation of services”

Reliance Jio has started disconnecting users who haven’t recharged their number for Prime yet. The disconnection is being conducted in a phased manner and our sources have said that some people have received a message warning them to recharge their number in order to continue using Jio’s services. The disconnection is aimed at those who haven’t subscribed for Prime Membership, and by extension the Summer Surprise or Dhan Dhana Dhan plans. Those who haven’t yet recharged their phone or subscribed to Jio’s plans can still do so via the Jio website.

The disconnection of numbers shouldn’t come as a surprise as Jio had warned of the same in its Dhan Dhana Dhan press statement. The operator had said, “Existing Jio customers who have not done their first recharge so far, need to do so by 15 April 2017 to avoid degradation and/or discontinuation of services.”

To recall, Jio had initially said that subscribers had till March 31 to sign up for Prime and that it would start its tariff plans from April 1 onwards. The company later announced that the deadline would be extended till April 15 and introduced a new offer called Summer Surprise offer. However, following the advice of TRAI, the operator scrapped the Summer Surprise offer. It then introduced the Dhan Dhana Dhan offer
