Reliance Jio claims to be the fastest growing technology company in the world
The company says that it crossed 50 million subscribers in 83 days, making the addition rate faster than Facebook, WhatsApp and Skype
Reliance Jio has announced that it has become the fastest growing technology company in the world. The company claims that it crossed 50 million subscribers in 83 days, with a subscriber addition rate of 6 lakh subscribers per day. It also says that the addition rate is faster than the likes of Facebook, WhatsApp and Skype. As of December 31, 2016, there were 72.4 million subscribers on the network.
Jio has also admitted that subscribers on its network are facing interconnection congestion issues with other operations. The company blames this on the inadequate provision of points of interconnection (POI) capacities. It says that POI capacity provided by these operators is below requirement and is falling short of the pace at which Jio is getting new subscribers. The company notes that 175 calls out of a 1,000 calls made between Jio to Airtel networks are failing. QoS regulations mandate that no more than 5 calls out of a 1,000 can fail.
Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director, Reliance Industries Limited stated, “I am also delighted by our country’s eagerness to adopt to a digital life as witnessed by the record-breaking launch of Jio. Its comprehensive ecosystem has enabled millions of Indians to lead a richer life through its offerings.”
Jio noted in its Financial and Operational Performance report that the average download speed on the Jio network was 18.17Mbps as per the TRAI MySpeed portal. It notes that this speed was twice that of any other telecom. The company also talked about its Jio Happy New Year Offer and its partnership with Niantic as part of which the Pokemon Go mobile game was finally brought to India.
