Starting May 3, you can switch your operator outside your native circle without changing your phone number.
Pan-India Mobile Number Portability (MNP) will finally be reality this year. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has just issued the Telecommunications Mobile Number Portability (Sixth Amendment) Regulations, 2015 for facilitating Full Mobile Number Portability in the country with effect from May 3, 2015.
As per the new TRAI rules, in case a post-paid subscriber who has ported his number defaults in the payment of his previous bill which was due to the Donor operator (previous service provider from whom the subscriber has ported out), the Donor Operator has to give a notice within a period of 30 days of due date of payment of its outstanding bill. After a lapse of 60 days from the due date of payment of the outstanding bill, the Donor Operator will not be entitled to raise non-payment disconnection requests with the Recipient Operator.

Pan-India MNP means you can change your operator outside your native circle. The intra circle portability has been one of the long pending element of the National Telecom Policy 2012. Interestingly, the operators had shown willingness to implement the system. However, the move got delayed for multiple reasons.
