Additionally, Ericsson also announced the introduction of its Radio System and the HDS 8000 system to the Indian market, along with the release of Ericsson Networks Software 16A
Ericsson has announced that it will be rolling out its first 4G (LTE-FDD) network in New Delhi, for Bharti Airtel. The four-year agreement is the first LTE-FDD rollout by Ericsson in the city. As part of the agreement with Airtel, Ericsson will provide its multi-standard radio equipment as well as deployment of its LTE RAN (Radio Access Network) software, that works seamlessly with its existing 2G and 3G networks. Ericsson has also partnered with Airtel to launch LTE networks in four other circles in India.
Aside from aiding Airtel in rolling out its 4G network, Ericsson also announced that it signed a four-year contract to expand 3G WCDMA network across eight telecom circles in India. This includes the rollout of 3G services in UMTS 2100MHz and UMTS 900MHz bands in three circles in the country. Ericsson will supply, install, perform, and manage services for WCDMA Radio Access Networks.
At the event, Ericsson also introduced its new Radio System in India. According to a statement released by Ericsson, the Radio System is a completely new approach in building radio networks, paving way to future 5G networks. It also states that the new system reduces site acquisition issues, delivers three times the capacity density, as well as a 50% improvement in energy efficiency. This system aims to provide operators the infrastructure its needs to support growing mobile data usage, which is expected to reach 25 exabytes globally by 2020. This is when 5G is expected to be commercialised. Earlier this year, Ericsson had carried out the world’s first demonstration of pre-standard 5G radio technology, and delivered speeds of 5Gbps using 15GHz spectrum.
Ericsson also announced its HDS 8000 (Hyperscale Datacenter System) to the Indian Market. The new system is an upgrade to the existing Ericsson Cloud System, and makes use of Intel’s Rack Scale Architecture, which improves efficiency, utilization, automation, and total ownership expenditure.
The Swedish multinational organisation also released its next major software, Ericsson Networks Software 16A. The new software includes a slew of LTE software upgrades that target the indoor space. According to its statement, it boosts network uplink speeds by 200%, and downlink speeds by 30%. The software will also add LTE Unlicensed (LTE-U), along with features that will support greater energy efficiency of small cells.
During the event, Ericsson also talked about Internet of Things, and how the company's innovations are speeding up IoT adoptions. The new software, along with advances in its ecosystem, will help support low-cost devices, extend battery life, improve indoor and rural coverage, as well as offer service prioritization. It was also announced that live demonstrations with leading ecosystem partners will take place at the CTIA Super Mobility 2015 event, to be held in Las Vegas from September 9-11.
