This will allow BSNL mobile subscribers to avail free calling benefits and receive landline calls on their mobile phones
BSNL will be soon be rolling out a convergence platform, that will sync mobile and landline connections of its subscribers. This will allow its mobile subscribers to avail free calling benefits that BSNL offers on its landline phones.
BSNL Chairman and MD, Anupam Shrivastava, told PTI, “We are in the process of rolling out fix mobile convergence platform by Diwali. This will enable consumers avail value added service in mobile phones, make free night calls from mobile phones if they have subscribed to landline and host of other modern facilities.” He added that this will also allow subscribers to receive landline calls on their mobile devices.
TRAI released a report last week that showed that BSNL to have lost the most number of landline subscribers, in the month of August. The report also showed that the company saw a net subscriber addition of 8,12,000 during the same month. As per the same report, Bharti Airtel gained the most number of subscribers in mobile and landline segment in August.
Last month, it was reported that BSNL will be raising the minimum speed of its broadband connection, starting October 1. Any user on a 512Kbps or a 1Mbps plan will be upgraded to a 2Mbps connection. However, the 2Mbps bandwidth speed will only be accessible pre-FUP data consumption. Once the fair usage data limit is crossed, speeds would drop to 512kbps. Additionally, there were talks to offer free calls at night. Any call made between 9:00pm and 7:00am made on a BSNL fixed line was said to be made free.
Back in June this year, BSNL had said that it was planning to spend Rs. 6,000 crores to set up over 40,000 public Wi-Fi hotspots in the country by 2018. Reports said that BSNL will set up 2,500 Wi-Fi hotspots across 250 locations in the country. In May, the telecom operator had announced that it will allow users to carry forward unused mobile internet data recharges on their phones. The facility would be available to both 2G and 3G subscribers. The company had also slashed 3G tariffs by 50%.
