Chandrayaan 3 launch completes one year: Here’s a look back
HIGHLIGHTS

ISRO successfully soft-landed the Landed Module on the lunar surface on this day.

With this feat, India became the first country to land near the lunar south pole.

The lander measured the lunar surface's thermal conductivity and temperature and studied its seismic activity.

A year back, on July 13, 2023, all of us witnessed India create history. The vibe was different, the aura was different, and the job was totally difficult. On July 13, 2023, India launched the Chandrayaan-3 mission. The mission was taken up by the esteemed Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

As we celebrate one year of this amazing feat, let’s recall all that has happened. So after launching the space mission on July 13, 2023, ISRO successfully soft-landed the Landed Module on the lunar surface on August 23, 2023. After this, the rover was released which operated on the Moon’s surface for one lunar day (14 Earth days). Scientists tried to recall it after one lunar day, but it did not respond.

With this feat, India became the first country to land near the lunar south pole, which is a really big achievement. Also, with the success of the Chandrayaan-3 mission, India became the fourth country to achieve a robotic landing on the Moon.

As a part of the mission, the lander measured the lunar surface’s thermal conductivity and temperature and studied its seismic activity. The rover, on the other hand, analysed the chemical and mineral composition of the lunar surface. This confirmed the presence of sulfur and even discovered elements like calcium, aluminum, iron, and titanium on the lunar surface.

But this isn’t it. The mission was a part of India’s long-term lunar exploration plan. In the future, ISRO is planning to further its lunar exploration with Chandrayaan-4. This time it aims to bring samples back from the Moon. After that, ISRO also plans to work on the Gaganyaan program so that it can send astronauts to space by 2025.

Are you excited about ISRO’s future plans? Cause I surely am.
