You have to be an early riser to watch the OnePlus 2 launch in VR
HIGHLIGHTS

OnePlus will be launching the Oneplus 2 on July 28th in India, since it is a global event, Indians will have to wake up early.

OnePlus has revealed that OnePlus Cardboard users in India can see the OnePlus 2 launch live from 7:30 am IST on July 28th. The event will be streamed live across the globe for everyone who has a VR headset or VR cardboard. However, OnePlus will also unveil the device physically in front of a seated audience on the same day here in India. It is expected that India might get the device early and OnePlus might start shipping the OnePlus 2 from next month itself.

The OnePlus 2 is amongst the most talked about smartphones of the year, but there are some concerns. First of all, the Snapdragon 810 SoC, which will be powering the OnePlus 2 has been criticised by media and reviewers across the globe for its uncontrollable heat issues. We saw the SoC in the Sony Xperia Z3+ we reviewed recently, and were disappointed. The phone might also have the same 13MP camera as the OnePlus One (courtesy MKBHD) but with a laser assisted autofocus system.

Some features of the phone are already known, like it will have a 4GB LPDDR4 RAM making it one of the few phones to feature a DDR4 RAM. The phone will also feature a larger battery and smaller screen size and while we know that it will have a 3300mAh battery, the screen size or resolution is still unknown. Rumors suggest that OnePlus might opt for a 5.2-inch or 5.3-inch display with a 1080p resolution. Other features like a USB Type-C port and a fingerprint sensor does make the phone sound like an upgrade and ahead of the curb, but how well they will be implemented, is yet to be seen. OnePlus has also confirmed that the OnePlus 2 will feature styleswap covers, something like what Motorola did with the Moto G (2014).

Further, other smartphone manufacturers like Motorola and Xiaomi are also gearing up to launch their respective flagships for the year. While Motorola is expected to launch its Moto X (2015) on the same day, i.e, July 28, the Xiaomi Mi5 is waiting for a launch date. Both phones are expected to bring the almost same specs as the OnePlus 2 to the table.

As far as customer support is concerned, OnePlus has partnered with Regenersis and opened 9 new service centres in India. The new service centres are opened in the following cities — Bangalore, Chennai, Cochin, Hyderabad, Pune, Mumbai (Andheri and Lamington), New Delhi and Kolkata.
