Yota partners with ZTE for manufacturing YotaPhone 3

While the Yotaphone 3 will be made in Singapore, the company will also be assembling a special edition YotaPhone in Russia.

Russian company Yota Devices has announced a partnership with Chinese manufacturer ZTE for making the YotaPhone 3. As part of the partnership, the production of the smartphone will move from Singapore to China. Yota expects that it will reduce the cost of production by more than 30%. The device is expected to be launched in the first quarter of 2016. There are also reports that the first shipments may reach 100,000 units. Additionally, the company will also be assembling a special edition YotaPhone in Russia at the same time.

The Yotaphones are known for their dual-screens with one of them being an IPS display, while the other is an e-ink display. The second display is available on the back of the phone and is used to display various information like weather, notification, time, etc. The YotaPhone 3 will be a successor to the YotaPhone 2 that has a 5-inch Full HD AMOLED display along with a 4.7-inch e-ink display. The device features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 SoC coupled with 2GB of RAM. There is an 8MP rear camera and a 2.1MP front camera. It offers 32GB of storage along with a 2500mAh. It runs on Android KitKat 4.4. The device is yet to come to India. Incidentally, the company also started a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo for bringing the device to Northern America, but, cancelled it later due to issues with its manufacturing partners.

The first generation Yotaphone, Yota C9660, is available in India via Flipkart. It has 4.7-inch HD front display and an e-Ink display. It runs on a 1.7GHz Snapdragon chipset with 2GB of RAM. It has in-built storage of 32GB with 13MP/1MP cameras. It has an 1800mAh battery and runs on Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2.
