Xperia X10 multi-touch issue – hardware or software related?

Xperia X10, Sony Ericsson’s flagship phone, is also its premier android smartphone in the market today, combining a 1GHz snapdragon chip from Qualcomm, a 4-inch wide capacitive display, 8.1 megapixel camera with LED flash and an intriguing customized Android skin known as ‘Rachael’.

However, Sony Ericsson had hinted during the release of X10 that the presence of pre-production firmware (beta version) on the Xperia X10 might contribute to sluggish keyboard and multi-touch performance until further updates and/or bug fixes. It appears that the product will continue experiencing sluggish performance with multi-touch controls, until Xperia X10 is upgraded with newer version of Android OS (proposed to be released in the near future). It is now known that both the hardware and software functionality for multi-touch is currently disabled until further notice or may take a rebirth as part of future firmware upgrades.
