The Chinese consumer electronics manufacturer Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 12 5G smartphone in the Chinese market. However, the company did not reveal any details about its India launch. However, a report confirmed that the Redmi Note 12 5G smartphone was spotted on the BIS listing with the same model number but rebranded as a Poco phone. In addition, it stated that the tech giant plans to launch the phone in India in the upcoming weeks this month.
The Redmi Note 12 series launched earlier in China included three variants, Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G, Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G, and the Redmi Note 12 Discovery Edition. However, the Redmi Note 12 Discovery Edition is likely only limited to Chinese customers. At the same time, a previous report suggested that the other two variants, Note 12 Pro 5G and 12 Pro+, would launch in the Indian market as the Xiaomi 12i and Xiaomi 12i HyperCharge.
A report by Gizmochina mentions the model number of the recently launched Note 12 5G phone, 22101317C, which translated to M17 in its shortened format. Furthermore, Simranpal Singh (@simransingh931) tweeted that a Poco smartphone with the model number 22111317PI listed on the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) database also has the shortened model number M17, indicating that the phone may soon arrive as a rebranded POCO smartphone in India.
The similarity in model number on the BIS listing also suggested that the device may be released in India in November. However, if both smartphones will carry similar specifications is yet to be announced by Redmi.
The Redmi Note 12 5G features a 6.67-inch OLED display that supports the full-HD+ resolution, offering a 120Hz refresh rate. The device runs on MIUI 13, Android 12 OS, and a Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 SoC powers the handset. In addition, it carries up to 8GB RAM and 256GB inbuilt storage capacity. Further, it also packs a 5,000mAh battery and supports 33W fast charging. The device sports a side-facing fingerprint scanner for biometric authentication.
