Xiaomi to launch Mi Protect insurance cover for its devices
Mi Protect will offer users SIM misuse insurance as well as accidental damage insurance which includes liquid damage
Xiaomi has introduced an insurance service called ‘Mi Protect’. This insurance service is for Xiaomi’s smartphones and tablets and will be launched next week in India. This insurance will offer its users a range of services ranging from blocking SIM cards to accidental damage. Mi Protect covers certain Xiaomi devices for an entire year.
Mi Protect insurance cover for Xiaomi Redmi 2 and the Redmi 2 Prime costs Rs. 275. The same for the Xiaomi Mi 4i, Mi 4, or the Mi Pad will cost Rs. 499. Under Mi Protect, Xiaomi users will be able to block their SIM from anywhere in the world in case that their device is stolen or lost. They will also be entitled to a SIM ‘misuse insurance’ cover of up to Rs. 3,000. Aside from this they will also be covered for accidental damages including liquid damage. The cover will depend on the device as well as the plan. Those who get Mi Protect insurance will also get Xiaomi’s ‘PickMi’ service. With this service, a Xiaomi representative will come over to the user's’ home to pick up the device. Once the issue is resolved, the device will be dropped back at the user's’ home.
To avail the service, users will have to call the Mi Protect customer service team at 1800 407 333 333, 1800 123 3330, or 0 8080 333 333 and explain the problem. After that, a representative will be sent to verify the issue and then the process of servicing the phone will be initiated.
Users should also keep in mind that there are certain issues that are not covered by Mi Protect. This includes damage caused by willful misconduct, normal wear and tear, corrosion, oxidation, rust, condensation, cold, or heat. It will also not cover cosmetic damage like stripped paint, scratches, fading, and so forth. Mi Protect will also not cover damage caused to the phones software and will also not cover the phone if the service agreement does not document the phone model, IMEI.
Moving on to what the competition has, OnePlus has also announced two new service packs for the OnePlus 2 called B2X Service and B2X Protect. The B2X Protect service covered accidental, physical and liquid damage to the phone during the first year of product purchase.
