Xiaomi shaves off Rs. 1,000 on Redmi 2 from today
Xiaomi's teaser poster released via Facebook hints at a Rs. 1,000 discount on the Redmi 2, beginning on July 7th
Update: The pricing for the Xiaomi Redmi 2 has been dropped to Rs. 5,999. This also creates the chance for the company to launch the upgraded version of the device with 2GB RAM and 16GB storage, at Rs. 6,999. Although, no official word has been received on that device yet.

A teaser poster released by Xiaomi on their official Facebook page reveals a price tag illustration of Rs. 5,999 half-concealed, hinting that the Redmi 2 is about to get cheaper from tomorrow, the 7th of July. The poster states, 'Paint the town red'.
Presently, the Xiaomi Redmi 2 is sold for Rs. 6,999, and this price cut will see the feature-rich budget smartphone sell for Rs. 5,999. There is no information yet on whether this will be a short-term special discount or a permanent price cut. Neither has it been made clear if the discount will extend to all online retailers like Flipkart and Snapdeal, or just be restricted to Xiaomi's official e-outlet.
The Xiaomi Redmi 2 had a 4.7" HD IPS LCD display, powered by a Snapdragon 410 quad-core processor with 1GB of RAM, 8GB internal storage and a 2200mAh battery. It ran Android KitKat v4.4.4 out of the box.
Xiaomi has recently been giving a number of discounts and price cuts on its products. The Mi 4 16GB recently saw its price being slashed down to Rs. 14,999, and its 64GB variant down to Rs. 19,999 from the initial launch price of Rs. 23,999.
