Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi just posted a stress test video of its flagship Mi4 device. This is nothing strange, since companies have been known to post such videos of their own devices. Xiaomi’s video though, is unusual to say the least. The company put the Xiaomi Mi4 up against crabs and lobsters, to test its strength, as you can see in the video on its Facebook page.
Xiaomi used a freshwater crab, a Japanese blue crab and a lobster against the Xiaomi Mi4. While the video isn’t really clear, the Mi4 doesn’t seem to be very badly damaged by either of these creatures. Xiaomi demonstrated how the lobsters claws could break glass, however, it doesn’t show whether the lobster could do any damage to the device.
The video, though not very surprising, considering the good build quality of the Mi4, is quite entertaining. The creatures Xiaomi used may have powerful claws, but aren’t quite strong enough to cut through metal. Also, the screen doesn’t seem to be taking much damage from the crabs either, but we would imagine that the lobster would have been able to at least crack it.
The Chinese manufacturer also recently announced that it has become the largest smartphone vendor in China, slipping ahead of Samsung by 0.4% market share, according to IDC. The company tweeted a graphic, showing that Xiaomi owns 12.5% of the market, while Samsung is second with 12.1%. The two are followed by Lenovo and Huawei.
