Xiaomi sends invites for October 19, Mi 5 expected

The successor to the Xiaomi Mi 4 is expected to come with 4GB of RAM and powered by a deca-core MediaTek Helio X20 chipset.

Xiaomi has sent out the invites for an event to be held on October 19. The invite doesn’t reveal any information about what to expect, but it has text which translates to ‘next generation of new products’.

If previous rumours are to be believed, Xiaomi is expected to announce the Mi 5 at the event. The smartphone if launched will be a successor to the Mi 4 that launched last year. The Mi 5 is expected to sport a 5.2-inch display with Quad HD resolution and 2.5D Gorilla Glass. It is rumoured to be powered by the deca-core MediaTek Helio X20 chipset along with 4GB of RAM. It is speculated to house a 16MP rear camera along with a 13MP front shooter. The whole package is expected to be powered by a 3000mAh battery with quick charging support. It will run on the recently launched MIUI 7 based on Android Lollipop v5.1.1. There are also reports that the company will launch a Snapdragon 820 chipset powered variant of the device. This variant will not make it to the market before the first half 2016. As for pricing, the Mi 5 is rumoured to be priced around $314 (approx. Rs. 20,350).

Earlier, Inventec Corp chairman Richard Lee confirmed that the company is making the first netbook from Xiaomi. He also said that the company will start shipping the netbooks from the first or second quarter of 2016. The netbook is rumoured to come with a 15-inch 1080p display. It is expected to be powered by an Intel Core i7-4500u along with two modules of 8GB of RAM. It is also expected to run on a version of Linux OS with a price tag around RMB 2,999 (approx. Rs. 30,734). We can also expect the Xiaomi to make some announcements about the netbook at the event.

Recently, Xiaomi launched its smartphone Mi 4c in China. It is available in two variants: 2GB RAM with 16GB storage and 3GB RAM with 32GB storage. The variants are priced at RMB 1299 (approx. Rs. 13,500) and RMB 1499 (Rs. 15,500) respectively.
