Xiaomi Redmi Y2 with dual rear cameras, Snapdragon 625 launched in India starting at Rs 9,999
Xiaomi's second selfie-centric smartphone, the Redmi Y2, will be available on Amazon, Mi.com and Mi Home starting June 12
To strengthen its presence in India's selfie-centric smartphone market, Xiaomi has launched the Redmi Y2 in the country. The phone sports the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset and will be available with up to 4GB RAM. The device comes in two configurations – one with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage priced at Rs 9,999, and another with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage priced at Rs 12,999.
The Redmi Y2 will be available in Dark Grey, Rose Gold and Gold colours on Amazon, Mi.com Mi Home starting June 12. With an almost similar build as the Redmi Note 5 Pro, the Redmi Y2 sports a metal unibody design with a vertical dual camera setup at the back. It has a rear fingerprint scanner and features Face Unlock through its 16MP front camera setup.
The Redmi Y2 touts a 5.99-inch HD+ display with an aspect ratio of 18:9. On the hardware front, the phone has a 14nm Snapdragon 625 processor clocked at 2 Ghz. Being a selfie-centric device, the Redmi Y2 has a 16-megapixel camera with f/2.0 aperture. The front shooter uses “Super Pixel”, a process that refers to the combination of four pixels into a single large one. This is basically Pixel Binning and Xiaomi claims that through this process, the phone captures more light and reduces noise, producing better pictures. The camera is paired with the Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance photos using Xiaomi's Beautify 4.0 software. When it comes to the rear camera setup, the Redmi Y2 has 12-megapixel + 5-megapixel lenses for Portrait photography.
Further, the Redmi Y2 comes with MIUI 9.5 based on Android Oreo 8.1 out of the box. It has a 3,080mAh battery.
At the event, Manu Kumar Jain, Managing Director, Xiaomi India said that the Portrait photography on Redmi Y2 uses semantic segmentation which is based on AI deep learning to separate foreground from background accurately.
Customers can get Rs 500 instant discount on purchasing the device with ICICI credit and debit cards. The offer is valid on first sale only. With Airtel, customers can get Rs 1,800 instant cashback and up to 240GB data. Both the offers are valid on Amazon and Mi.in.
According to market research firm International Data Corporation (IDC) Xiaomi India continued to lead the Indian smartphone market in the first quarter Q1 2018. Xiaomi retained its top smartphone brand position with a substantial 30.3 percent market share.
