Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A launched with 16MP selfie camera, MIUI9 and budget pricing

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A is aimed at consumers looking for a better selfie camera at a budget price tag. The handset will be available in three different configurations.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A is now official. As expected, the Chinese smartphone maker has added another budget Android smartphone to its Redmi series. The new Redmi Note 5A sports a design similar to other smartphones in the Redmi series, but offers an improved selfie camera at affordable pricing.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A comes in two different variants that primarily differ in terms of their processor, selfie camera and memory capacities. The base variant is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 425 chipset coupled with 2GB RAM and 16GB storage. The higher version uses Qualcomm's Snapdragon 435 chipset and can be configured with 3GB, 32GB storage or 4GB RAM and 64GB storage.

Both the models get a 13MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture, phase detection autofocus and a LED flash. The base model with 2GB RAM gets a standard 5MP selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture and real-time beautification mode. The higher version with 3GB or 4GB RAM gets a 16MP selfie shooter with soft light flash, f/2.0 aperture, 78.4 degree wide-angle lens and real-time beautification mode even while making video calls. The selfie cameras also supports 1080p video recording at 30 frames per second.

In terms of other specifications, the Redmi Note 5A sports a 5.5-inch 720p HD display with 450nit brightness and 70 percent NTSC colour gamut. The handset runs the company's latest MIUI 9 based on Android Nougat and supports new features like image search and smart assistant. 

The Redmi Note 5A is backed by a 3080mAh battery and and will be available in champagne gold, rose gold and platinum silver grey colour options. The base model with 2GB RAM and 16GB storage is priced at 699 Yuan (around Rs 7,000). The higher version with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage is priced at 899 Yuan (around Rs 9,000), while the 4GB RAM version will retail for 1199 Yuan (around Rs 12,000). All the three models are available in China now and should be made available in other countries in the coming months.
