Xiaomi may launch a Red colour variant of the Redmi Note 5 in India to celebrate the 5th anniversary of Redmi phones in India.

It has been 5 years since the first Xiaomi Redmi phone launched in India and to mark the occasion, the Chinese smartphone maker might be readying to launch a ‘Red’ colour variant of the Redmi Note 5 in the country.

In a Tweet accompanied by an image, Xiaomi’s global VP and Country head said, “#5YearsWithRedmi: 5 yrs since 1st #Redmi phone was launched globally. Today @RedmiIndia is the most loved smartphone series in India. 1st Redmi phone in India was #Redmi1S & I've used every single Redmi device. Still have all of them! Can u identify them? Which is ur fav 1?”

The image embedded in the tweet shows Jain with a bunch of Redmi devices in front of him, one of which is a red coloured phone facing upside down, bearing a single camera at the back. This rules out the possibility that the device could be the Redmi Note 5 Pro since it comes with a dual rear camera setup. Moreover, Xiaomi had launched a Flame Red edition of the Redmi Note 5 in China just last month, so putting two and two together, it seems like the company may launch the same Flame Red coloured Redmi Note 5 in India.

The Red edition of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 will add to its existing Black, Gold, Rose Gold and Blue colour models. The smartphone is available in India in two different RAM and storage variants – 3GB RAM/32GB ROM variant priced at Rs 9,999, and a 4GB RAM/64GB ROM model priced at Rs 11,999.

The Redmi Note 5 features a 5.99-inch FHD+ 18:9 display with 2160 x 1080p resolution. Akin to its predecessor, It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC with Adreno 506 GPU. The smartphone features a single 12MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture lens and an LED flash. It comes with a 5MP front-facing sensor, which is capable of recording Full HD videos and comes with a Beautify 3.0 feature for selfies along with an LED flash. The entire package is powered by a 4,000 mAh battery.
