Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 getting Android 7.0 Nougat update

Xiaomi has started rolling out Android 7.0 Nougat based MIUI 8.5 update for the Redmi Note 4. The update is being pushed out in a phased manner and the handset is expected to receive MIUI 9 update starting August 11.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 has started receiving Android 7.0 Nougat update. The update weighing in at around 1.3GB is currently being rolled out to Redmi Note 4 users in Greece. The update brings the smartphone to Xiaomi's MIUI 8.5 based on Android 7.0 Nougat version.

The update, first spotted by GizChina, also includes Android security patch for the month of July. The MIUI 8.5 is a global ROM and it should soon begin rolling out in other countries as well. The Redmi Note 4 was launched with Android 6.0 Marshmallow early this year, and this update should prepare the device for the MIUI 9 update scheduled to roll out on August 11.

To recall, Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 (also called Redmi Note 4X in China) was announced in January with upgraded specifications. The handset is the best-selling smartphone for the Chinese company in India. It sports a 5.5-inch Full HD display and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset. The Redmi Note 4 is available in three versions: 2GB and 3GB RAM variants with 32GB storage and a 4GB RAM model with 64GB storage.

The smartphone sports a 13MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, phase detection autofocus and dual-LED flash. It also features a 5MP front camera with f/2.0 aperture and support for 1080p video recording. The handset features a rear mounted fingerprint sensor and is backed by a 4100mAh battery. The smartphone starts at Rs 9,999 for the 2GB RAM variant, while the 4GB RAM variant retails for Rs 12,999.
