Xiaomi Redmi 4 expected at company’s India launch event today

Update: Xiaomi has officially announced the Redmi 4 in India with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 435 and three different storage options. There is 2GB RAM, 16GB storage variant priced at Rs 6,999, 3GB RAM, 32GB storage model priced at Rs 8,999 and 4GB RAM, 64GB storage variant priced at Rs 10,999. The handset runs MIUI 8 with Android N preview and will be available exclusively at Mi Home on May 20.

Xiaomi is all set to introduce its next Redmi smartphone in India today. The Chinese smartphone maker is expected to launch Redmi 4 as the successor to Redmi 3S series at an event in New Delhi today. The Xiaomi Redmi 4 will be the third big smartphone launch for the company in Indthisths year after the launch of Redmi Note 4 and Redmi 4A. The event will be live streamed on company's website.

We already know that Xiaomi Redmi 4 will be available exclusively on Amazon India and the e-commerce giant has even started a page where users can register for notifications about the device. Xiaomi recently confirmed that it has sold over 4 million units of Redmi 3S smartphones in India and with Redmi 4, it will be hoping to replicate that success.

Xiaomi Redmi 4 was first announced in China in November last year and it features the same metal design like its predecessor. The handset was announced in standard and pro variants and company is likely to launch them as Redmi 4 and Redmi 4 Prime in India. The two variants differ from each other in key areas like display resolution, memory and processor.

Both the Redmi 4 variants feature a 5-inch display with the standard variant getting a 720p HD panel and prime variant stepping up to Full HD panel. The standard variant is powered by Snapdragon 430 processor coupled with 2GB RAM, 16GB storage, while the prime variant gets Snapdragon 625 processor, 3GB RAM and 32GB storage. Both variants sport a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera. They run Android 6.0 Marshmallow based MIUI 8 and are backed by a 4100mAh battery. The handsets are likely to be priced at Rs 6,999 and Rs 8,999 respectively.
