Recent discovery of patent filing, uncovered by 91mobiles, has brought Xiaomi’s potential entry into the tri-fold phone market into the spotlight. The patent, filed at China’s National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) and dated September 3, showcases a device that closely mirrors Huawei’s Mate XT in its tri-fold approach. The renders from the patent show a foldable phone that can be used in three distinct screen sizes, offering versatile functionality.

In addition to the innovative folding design, the patent hints at a horizontal camera bar positioned at the top of the back panel. This rear-camera setup is expected to include three sensors.

While this tri-fold phone design is still under wraps, there’s speculation that it could be part of Xiaomi’s “MIX” series. Known for pushing the boundaries of smartphone design, Xiaomi’s MIX series could be the perfect platform for such a device. However, it remains uncertain if this tri-fold phone will transition from concept to consumer product or stay as an experimental design.
