Xiaomi is reportedly working on a new smartphone that it will bring smile on the face of people looking for a compact smartphone. Since Apple decided to kill 4-inch iPhone in 2014, more and more smartphone makers have adopted large screens on their devices. Now a new leak hints at a Xiaomi device with smaller 4.6-inch display and flagship specifications.
Xiaomi's compact smartphone dubbed Mi S is likely to be a device in the lines of Xperia X Compact range. The smartphone features a 4.6-inch full HD display with a maximum brightness of 600 nits and 2.5D curved glass on top. The highlight here is the use of latest Snapdragon 821 processor, the one found under the hood of Google Pixel and OnePlus 3T smartphones. The device is expected to feature 4GB RAM and 128GB storage.
The leaked slide hints at Xiaomi Mi S sporting a 12MP primary camera with Sony IMX 378 sensor. The main camera is likely to support phase detection autofocus and f/2.0 aperture. The camera is also tipped to support 4K video recording along with a 4MP snapper for selfies.
Xiaomi Mi S is expected to be backed by a 2600mAh battery along with support for Qualcomm's Quick Charge 3.0 technology. The device will use USB-C port for both data and charging. Xiaomi is also not leaving audiophiles behind by retaining the 3.5mm headphone jack. Xiaomi Mi S reportedly weighs 138 grams and it is 8.2mm at its thickest point. The design feels similar to Xiaomi Mi 5 and it is likely sporting a fingerprint sensor embedded with the physical home button.
The only missing puzzle is the pricing and release date. Another thing worth noting here is that this device may just be a render and not a real device at all. We, however, hope that Xiaomi does make this device and launch it as Mi 5 Compact.
