Xiaomi has confirmed that its upcoming flagship smartphones, the Mi Mix 2S, would be powered by Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 845 SoC. The confirmation came via a teaser video the company posted on Chinese video sharing website, Miaopai.com. This means that the company would join the likes of Samsung and Sony in launching devices powered by the new chipset. The video also reiterated the fact that the phone will be unveiled on March 27.
With the Mi Mix 2S, it is possible that the company might switch to using an OLED panel instead of LCD. Recent reports suggest that Samsung will be supplying OLED panels for use in the Mi mix 2S as well as the Mi 7 smartphones. The former is also tipped to come with a 16MP rear camera and a 4400mAh battery. A leaked video of a device tipped to the the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S was posted late last month and suggested that the upcoming device may come with a gesture based interface, similar to the Apple iPhone X.
To recall, the Mi Mix 2 was launched in India in October last year and featured a bezel-less design like its predecessor. It sports a 5.99-inch Full HD+ LCD display and is powered by a Snapdragon 835 SoC. The phone offers 6GB RAM along with 128GB storage. At the back of the phone is a single 12MP camera, while at the front is a 5MP unit.
The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S is the first smartphone by the company to be powered by the new chipset and it is not yet known if and when the device will launch in India. While Samsung also launched the S9 and the S9+ with the new Snapdragon 845 chipset, it will be launching the variant powered by its own Exynos processor in India. Sony, too launched the Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact powered by the same 10nm chipset, but has not disclosed its plans for India.
