The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 has been confirmed by its CEO and will be designed by French designer Philippe Starck. The handset is expected to use Samsung's Super AMOLED display and thinner bezels than its predecessor.

Xiaomi Mi Mix 2, the second generation bezel-less display smartphone, is expected to debut on September 12. According to a new leak originating from China, the Mi Mix 2 will be announced on the same date as Apple's rumoured 2017 iPhone lineup.

Back in February, Xiaomi CEO confirmed that the company is working on the Mi Mix 2 and that it will also be designed by French designer Philippe Starck. The original Mi Mix ditched the bezels on three sides surrounding the display and Starck has posted design renders on his official Facebook page indicating that the handset will sport a thinner bottom bezel this time around. The smartphone is expected to use Samsung made Super AMOLED display and sport a taller 18:9 aspect ratio, also seen on smartphones like Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+, Galaxy Note 8 and LG G6 and Q6.

The images of the handset that leaked early this month also suggest an all-screen design similar to one found on Andy Rubin's Essential Phone. The Mi Mix 2 is expected to be thinner than its predecessor and a new leak seems to show the back panel of the device. The leaked image reveals a ceramic back panel with two circular cutouts on the top. The cutouts could be meant for either a dual camera setup or a single camera and fingerprint sensor placed below the camera. The image also suggests a dual stereo speaker setup and USB Type-C port at the bottom.

Xiaomi is likely to follow Samsung and LG to adopt a facial recognition feature and leaked benchmarks suggest the use of Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 chipset coupled with 6GB RAM and a beefy 4500mAh battery. The handset is also tipped to feature a 19MP primary camera and retail at 4,999 Yuan (around Rs 50,000).
