Xiaomi is rumoured to announce the successor to last year's Mi Max with a 5000mAh battery and new design on May 23 in China

Xiaomi's rumoured Mi Max 2 with huge 6.44-inch display and newly introduced Snapdragon 660 processor might arrive on May 23. The handset was initially said to launch alongside company's flagship Mi 6 smartphone. Now, a new rumour from China hints at a May 23 launch, more than a year after the launch of the original device.

The Mi Max 2 is rumoured to feature the same 6.44-inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels as its predecessor, It is expected to run MIUI 9, which is based Android 7.1.1 Nougat. The handset is rumoured to arrive in two different variants with the standard model powered by Snapdragon 626 with 4GB RAM, while the top-end version might offer 6GB RAM and Snapdragon 660.

Xiaomi Mi Max 2 has been previously spotted in benchmarks and it recently popped up on Weibo revealing a new design. The handset is expected to offer a tweaked iPhone 7-like antenna design and rear LED flash placed next to the camera sensor. The handset was earlier tipped to use 12MP Sony IMX378 sensor for its rear camera with a wider aperture for better low-light photography. At teh front, the device is expected to sport a 5MP camera. 

The handset is also rumoured to pack a larger 5000mAh battery, a small bump from 4850mAh battery offered with the original model. The handsets could be priced between 1,499 Yuan (around Rs. 14,000) and 1,699 Yuan (approx. Rs. 15,700),  but not exceed the 1,999 Yuan (around Rs 20,000).
