Xiaomi Mi A1, the first Android One smartphone from the Chinese smartphone maker will go on sale today at 12 noon. The stock Android device will be available for the second time since its launch from Mi.com and Flipkart. The smartphone marks the return of Android One to India and the mainstream smartphone market after a bad start in 2014.

Xiaomi announced the Mi A1 as the company's first foray into stock Android devices on September 5. The smartphone borrows the design of the Mi 5X available in China and pairs it with a dual camera setup found on the company's flagship Mi 6 smartphone. The Mi A1 sports an all-metal unibody design with curved antenna lines and is available in black, gold and rose gold colour variants.

In terms of specifications, the Mi A1 sports a 5.5-inch Full HD display and is powered by Qualcomm's Octa-core Snapdragon 625 processor. The Snapdragon 625 is a 14nm chipset also found under the hood of the Redmi Note 4 and Mi Max 2. The Mi A1 offers 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, further expandable up to 128GB via microSD card slot.

The Mi A1 features a dual 12MP rear camera setup with one wide-angle lens and another telephoto lens. The primary 12MP wide-angle lens has 26mm focal length with f/2.2 aperture, phase detection autofocus and dual-tone flash. The secondary 12MP telephoto lens has a focal length of 50mm, f/2.6 aperture and is capable of 2x optical zoom. The primary camera is capable of recording 4K videos at 30fps and 720p slow-motion videos at 120fps. There is also a 5MP front camera with f/2.0 aperture and support for 36 beauty profiles.

While the Mi A1 packs great specifications for a mid-range smartphone segment, the stock Android experience sets it apart from other smartphones available in the market. The Mi A1 ditches Xiaomi's custom MIUI in favour of stock Android 7.1.1 Nougat. The smartphone supports unlimited photo storage at high quality and shared albums on Google Photos. At the launch, Google confirmed that the Mi A1 will get Android 8.0 Oreo before the end of this year. Other features of the phone include a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and support for 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS and 3.5mm audio jack. The Mi A1 is backed by a 3080mAh battery and uses aUSB Type-C port. The Mi A1 is priced at Rs 14,999.
