HIGHLIGHTS

Xiaomi Mi 5X is a mid-range smartphone with dual rear camera setup similar to one found on flagship Mi 6. The smartphone also debuts the new MIUI 9 with system wide image search and Xiaomi's own smart assistant.

The Xiaomi Mi 5X is now official. The handset has been unveiled at the company's event in China and it brings the dual rear camera setup seen on the company's flagship Mi 6 down to mid-range segment. Xiaomi Mi 5X is priced at 1,499 Yuan (approximately Rs 15,000) and will be available in gold, black and rose gold colour options.

Xiaomi Mi 5X is another addition to the company's Mi 5 lineup after the launch of updated Mi 5s and cheaper Mi 5c powered by company's own Surge S1 SoC. The Mi 5X features a 5.5-inch full HD display with a full metal unibody design and rounded edges. The handset is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset coupled with 4GB RAM and 64GB expandable storage.

The highlight here is the new dual rear camera setup with one wide-angle lens and another telephoto lens. Xiaomi says the setup is similar to the one found on Mi 6 and both the cameras use OmniVision sensors. The rear camera is capable of 2x optical zoom and supports bokeh effects and portrait mode. It also sports a 5MP front camera with support for 1080p video recording.

Xiaomi Mi 5X also debuts the new MIUI 9 based on Android Nougat. The new MIUI 9 brings new refinements including Xiaomi's own smart assistant, a new file system and support for system wide image search. Xiaomi says the new MIUI 9 will offer faster app launch times and a new multi-window split screen functionality. The Xiaomi Mi 5X offers a rear fingerprint scanner, offers discrete antenna design similar to company's latest smartphones and it is backed by a decent 3080mAh battery.
