It's not the first time Xiaomi has made its phone available without registration. Even as the company has been making efforts to expand its base in the Indian market, it recently made its Redmi Note 4G smartphone available without registration process.
With the new Mi4, Xiaomi is targeting the mid-range segment, but faces a close competition with One Plus One. Recently, Samsung dropped the price of the Galaxy S4, further intensifying the competition.
Priced under Rs. 20,000, the Mi 4 has a 5-inch 1080p display, 2.5 GHz Snapdragon 801 CPU and Android 4.4.4 KitKat layered with the MiUI 6 interface and 13MP camera.
