Xiaomi has officially launched the Redmi K40 series in China. The Redmi K40, Redmi K40 Pro and Redmi K40 Pro+ follow the Redmi K30 series from last year. The Redmi K40 series is powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with high refresh rate displays, multiple cameras on the back and fast charging support. Xiaomi is yet to reveal if it plans on bringing the Redmi K40 series to India anytime soon.
The Redmi K40 starts at CNY 1999 for the base variant with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage, CNY 2,199 for the 8GB+128GB variant and CNY 2,499 for the maxed-out variant with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. This roughly translates to a starting price of Rs 22,500 by direct conversion.
Meanwhile, the Redmi K40 Pro is priced starting at CNY 2,799 for the 6GB+128GB variant, CNY 2,999 for the 8GB+128GB variant and CNY 3,299 for the variant with 256GB storage. As for the Redmi K40 Pro+, it is available with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage at CNY 3,699.
The Redmi K40 measures 7.8 millimetres in thickness and weighs 196 grams. The rear panel is topped with a layer of Gorilla Glass 5. The phone features a 6.67-inch Full HD+ (2400 x 1080 pixels) resolution display which uses an AMOLED panel with upto 120Hz high refresh rate and HDR10+ playback certification. There’s a punch-hole cutout in the top-centre which lends it a 20:9 aspect ratio. Like the back panel, the screen is also layered with Gorilla Glass 5.
The Redmi K40 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 processor with an octa-core CPU running at upto 3.2GHz with Adreno 650 GPU. This is paired with upto 8GB RAM and upto 256GB UFS 3.1 storage options. It runs on MIUI 12 which is based on Android 11.
The phone has triple cameras on the back that consists of a primary 48MP camera with an f/1.8 aperture, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera with a 119-degree field of view and a 5MP macro camera. The rear cameras can record in 4K at 30FPS and 1080p at upto 120FPS backed by EIS. On the front, there is a 20MP selfie camera.
The Redmi K40 has stereo speakers and a side-mounted fingerprint reader. It is equipped with a 4,520mAh battery that supports 33W fast charging out-of-the-box. Xiaomi claims it can go from 0-100% in just 52 minutes.
The Xiaomi Redmi K40 Pro has the same build and display as the standard Redmi K40. However, the K40 Pro and K40 Pro+ are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor with an octa-core CPU and Adreno 660 GPU. This is paired with upto 12GB RAM and upto 256GB UFS 3.1 storage variants top choose from.
The Redmi K40 Pro has a 64MP primary camera but the other two camera sensors including the selfie camera remain the same as the standard K40. Similarly, the Redmi K40 Pro+ has a 108MP primary camera paired with an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a 5MP macro camera.
The Redmi K40 Pro and Redmi K40 Pro+, both have the same 4,520mAh battery as the standard model with 33W fast charging.
