Beside the Xiaomi Mi Note 2, the company also announced the Mi VR headset

Among much fanfare, Xiaomi has launched the Mi Note 2 in China today. The new flagship from the company has been in the news for various leaks and rumours. The phone’s design is a refinement of the Xiaomi Mi 5 which was launched earlier this year. It has a dual edge curved screen display and a dual curved glass back. There are three variants of the phone and the prices start at 2799 Yuan (Rs. 27,650 approximately) for the 64GB storage version and prices go up to 3499 (Rs. 34,550 approximately). However, only the top tier variant will make its way to the global markets.

The new Mi Note 2 uses a 5.7-inch flexible OLED display panel with a resolution of 1920 x 1080p. Xiaomi claims that the display is six times more expensive to manufacture than a normal 5.5-inch full LCD displays. The phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 SoC, which is the same SoC that powers the new Google Pixel smartphones. The phone will be available with 6GB DDR4 RAM and 128GB UFS 2.0 storage for the global markets.

Unlike most upcoming phones, the Mi note 2 does not feature a dual camera setup on the rear. Instead, the phone uses a single Sony IMX 318 sensor with a 22.56MP rear camera. It does not have OIS (optical image stabilization) like the Mi 5, but the phones does feature EIS and has 4K video stabilization. At the front, the phone has a 8MP selfie camera.

Besides the Xiaomi Mi Note 2, the company launched a new VR headset called the Mi VR. The headset looks quite similar to the Sony Playstation VR, but does not have its own display. Instead, it uses a phone as the display, like Google’s Daydream VR. However, the VR headset does have its own hardware and consists of an extra precise motion sensor. It is priced at 199 Yuan (Rs. 2,000 approximately)
