Xiaomi says it shipped over 10 million smartphones in the month of September. This is the first time that Xiaomi has shipped so many units of its smartphones in a single month. The company started 2017 on a strong note and is continuing to maintain that momentum in the smartphone segment.
Xiaomi CEO, Lei Jun, confirmed the milestone on his Weibo page and reiterated that its smartphone business is rebounding from sales decline in 2016. Xiaomi shipped 70 million smartphones in 2015 but shipments declined to 58 million in 2016. However, it has managed to sell more smartphones in the first half of this year alone.
Back in July, Xiaomi announced that it shipped 23.16 million smartphones in the second quarter of 2017, up 70 percent quarter-on-quarter. Xiaomi's India sales contributed strongly to those 10 million shipments in a month.
Xiaomi says it sold over 1 million smartphones in just two days during the festive sale held on Amazon and Flipkart. One out of ten phones shipped last month were sold during the course of two days in India. The Redmi Note 4, Xiaomi’s best-selling smartphone with over 5 million shipments continues to remain one of the best-selling mobile devices in the online segment. Xiaomi claims to have sold over 25 million smartphones since its debut here with the launch of Mi 3 in July 2014.
In the past few quarters, Xiaomi has managed to regain its place among top five smartphone makers in China and it continues to be the second largest smartphone brand in India with nearly 17 percent market share. With nearly three months remaining before the end of this year, Xiaomi would be hoping to maintain this strong sale and strengthen its supply chain further.
