World’s first washable smartphone announced in Japan
HIGHLIGHTS

Yes, you can literally scrub this smartphone with soap and water!

They are sometimes unbreakable, can be dunked in water or scratched to no avail, smartphones have come a long way in terms of durability. Now, in a world first, a washable smartphone has been announced in Japan. Yes, you can get down and soapy with the Kyocera Digno Rafre, and you can scrub it with soap to clean off all the dirt and fingerprint marks accumulated on the device. Now, that is something we've never seen before.

While there are a lot of water-proof devices in the market, there certainely isn't one that can be soaked in soap. Perfect for food bloggers and chefs, the Rafre smartphone houses a 720p 5- inch display, a 10.1 mm thick body, along with a 13 MP primary camera. The company claims that the Rafre smartphone's touchscreen capabilities work even when the phone is completely wet. The phone can be washed with a normal handsoap and has a scratch healing finish just like the LG G Flex. Along with this, the Rafre comes with Android 5.1 Lollipop pre-installed on the device. Rafre also boasts of a Smart Sonic Receiver, which makes it capable of producing sound without any external speakers. The Rafre washable smartphone will be launched in Japan on December 11, 2015 for a price of $465 (Rs. 31,083).

The Rafre phone makes complete sense as a washable phone, as our devices tend to get really dirty. A study by Wall Street Journal points out that an abnormally high number of coliforms, a bacteria indicating fecal contamination, is usually found on all smartphones after they have been used consistently. So, germophobes can get their scrubbing gloves out and breathe a sigh of relief, at least in Japan. Here's a video ad of the Rafre smartphone and its washable capabilities.
