Windows Phone technical preview gets Microsoft Spartan browser
Microsoft updates the Windows 10 Technical preview for phones, brings Spartan browser and updated apps.
Microsoft has started rolling out the second build (10051) of its Windows 10 Technical Preview for phones after the first build which was released in February. The new build brings the new Spartan Browser to the Windows Phone platform. The Spartan browser will be the next default browser in Windows 10 and will replace Internet Explorer.
The new build brings an early build of the Spartan browser and uses Microsoft’s new rendering engine which offers better interaction with the modern mobile web. Currently the new Spartan browser exists side by side with IE browser in the Technical Preview. It is available in the all apps list and can be pinned to the start screen.
Besides the Spartan browser, new Mail, Calendar, Phone, Messaging, People, Maps and an updated app switcher have been added. Microsoft has also fixed some issues and bugs from the previous build. However, some issues still exist and Microsoft has listed some known issues on its blog.
Microsoft has added more phones under the Technical Preview umbrella and now almost all Lumia phones are eligible to use the Windows 10 Technical Preview. There are a few exceptions like the Lumia 930, Icon and 640 XL. Microsoft says these phones are facing scaling issues which makes the UI look too small.
If you are using the Windows 10 Technical Preview on your Lumia device and haven't got the update yet, you won't have to wait long. The Windows 10 Technical Preview is also available for your PC.
