Windows Mobile 7 sighted in the wild

Updated on 21-Oct-2009

Microsoft seems to be hard at work trying to make sure Windows for Mobiles does not end up becoming an archaic and superfluous smart phone operating system.

Now new screenshots have emerged which show just what direction Windows Mobile 7 might be taking. These screenshots, which were supposedly leaked as shots from Windows Mobile 6.5.1 seem more appropriate as those for version 7.

Besides the fact that the Start menu button is absent the operating system seems to have gone through quite a visual refresh. The screenshots, which are available at pocketnow.com show the new redesigned applications and interface, with a revamped visual appearance, which some effort thrown in to make it more suitable for use with finger touch devices.

The screenshots shows a cleaned up calender application, a more graphic call screen with contact images, the new contacts application with contact images, and status integration, a less cluttered outlook email application, a text / SMS application with larger on screen keypad, and a settings application which is more finger friendly.

Microsoft has quite a fight ahead to keep Windows relevant on mobiles, and visually at-least, WIndows mobile 7 seems like a step in the right direction.
